This month I'm trying to get organized. It's not going well but it's the effort that counts, right?
Inside of the organizational reno lies something I'm pretty bad at. Efficiency. I have a lot of Post-Its everywhere, notebooks half full and a notes app that reflects half-baked ideas and some things that I actually use daily.
So a mentor of mine suggested a few tech tools to help and I'm diving in. But I have questions. Like, a lot of questions. And no one to ask.
So I just started using a couple of the tools and made lots of mistakes and eventually, some progress.
That's kind of how I talk about emails to you. A lot of you are unsure about sending emails. What to put inside, how many images, how often and on and on and on.
So, listen, I'm here to tell you that there is no magic answer. Each audience will respond differently to your news as long as you use that audience as your gauge.
What does that mean?
Before you write a newsletter, figure out WHY your reader would open said newsletter.
Is it for the vibes? The book recs? The OCCASIONAL free books from friends to bulk up their TBR? The storytelling. The bonus content. The information. The education. The laughs or the tugs at their heartstrings. The gossip. The connection to a community.
Just like a business owner knows their client, you need to know your reader and give them what they want inside your news. And sometimes you'll get it right, and sometimes it won't land as good, but you won't know until you experiment.
Use the data to make decisions.
What links are they clicking on? Where are those links in the structure of the email? What subject lines get opened? What days and times of the day work? When do they reply?
It's all giving you the most obvious 'next steps' but we just write the email and then move on.
Take your time. Over 60-90 days analyze what's worked and what hasn't and shift your efforts. Ask you readers lots and lots of questions.
Newsletters are a gold mine of data. Way more data than social media could ever give you.
Don't run from that. Run TO it!
And if you need help analyzing the whole thing, audits for March, April and May are now open. Only one slot left in March! And don't forget audits in from April onwards are now including one email template as well!
Audits are paid in full at the time of booking. You will receive an 8-12 page report with your chosen template.
Happy Emailing
