Earlier this month we started talking about the evolution of the 'skim reader'. You know the one, and yes, you are likely guilty of this as well, that human who reads your emails looking only at the top and maybe a few points in between.
Last week we talked about jazzing up the strategy behind your subject lines and the week ahead of that we talked about the use of bold text, highlighting if it's available to you and spacing to guide the eye to the key selling points inside your emails.
Today, let's talk about what's actually going inside your emails.
There are 4 types of emails I like to write. We'll only cover one today and the others will cover over the next 3 weeks.
Storytelling Emails.
These emails aren't just a simple transaction email. As the name implies, they are telling a story. Now, the story doesn't have to be elaborate or long. It just has to be infused into the text. Let me show you what I mean.
I'm selling a pre-order to a rom-com. It's the third book in the series. It's about a quarterback and his new female coach. So tropes are forbidden love, forced proximity and workplace romance.
Yesterday, the teams were decided on for the upcoming Superbowl. The Eagles and the Chiefs. Lots to work with here and none of it may even be about you the author.
Your email might start like this:
Did that just happen? Are we going to the Super Bowl? Who do you think I'm rooting for? It's the battle of the Kelce's and to be honest, I can't choose. This must be why authors write 'Why Choose' novels.
I get it now!
Just for funsies, if it was Jax and his Falcons in the Superbowl against Maren's new team she's coaching, the Rocktons, I don't know what I'd do. I mean Jax and Maren have history they're trying to forget. She's the interim coach against his rivals. He's the QB she can't take her eyes off of when she's supposed to be outperforming every guy who has ever coached.
Again, I don't want to choose but I did.
If you want to see what happened next and who won my own version of the Super Bowl, you're going to have to dive into Touchdown (I know. There's a reason I don't write Sports Rom Coms). Click below to read it now in KU!
Okay, so we told a story. We wove a story to sell into it. And we stayed on brand with what our readers are looking for - trending pop culture items, tension and sports.
Storytelling doesn't have to be giving away everything about yourself. All the reader knows from this email is that you like the Kelce brothers and football, which, who doesn't LOL?
Want me to help you get the same effect? You can work with me on this two ways:
- Did you know I am an email copywriter? Give me your system, I'll write your emails with strategy and intention in your voice. Click HERE to chat with me about this service.
- I can perform an audit and new to the audits starting in April - they all include a template of your choice - choose either an email written by me for you to use with strategy behind it or choose a shell of a welcome sequence with templated emails inside as a guide. You give me your system, I give you back everything you need to use emails to grow your revenue!
Already have an audit booked? You're getting this service as well!
Audits are paid in full at the time of booking. You will receive an 8-10 page report with your chosen template.
Happy Emailing and see you next week when we talk about the next version of highly effective emails!
