Hiding in plain sight 🐣

How’s the candy stash holding up, Reader?

You might’ve seen this at your egg hunt over the weekend: some kids get so focused on the obvious spots, they miss the hidden goodies, and their baskets end up a little less full than everyone else’s.

Egg hunts and industry trendspotting have something in common:

You only find what you look for.

But knowing where to look? That’s how you find the good stuff. So—in the spirit of a strategic egg hunt—here are three big “golden egg” trends I’m seeing in email marketing for authors. Grab your basket:

🥚 Trend #1: The hidden eggs everyone else misses.

Most people get stuck looking in obvious spots, but here’s what’s quietly catching on: Interactive Emails.

Don't groan and hide your face. Over the next few weeks, I'll be diving into this topic with gusto. I love it when emails start to come alive and are more than covers, blurbs and buttons.

Interactive Emails can look like:

Polls/Surveys

Audio Snippets

Bookclubs

Videos

Character Takeovers

Author Takeovers

Takeaway: Lean into bringing your reader onto your marketing team with interactive emails because building a community has never been more on trend!

🥚 Trend #2: The empty eggs you can skip.

Not every trend is worth chasing. Skip this:

Overly designed emails.

Loads of swap content.

Growing your list just for the sake of vanity.

Overly long and complex automations.

Instead: Focus on shorter and snappy emails with lots of white space built for mobile. Quality smaller lists that actually sell books. And precise automations that are great jumping off points with three or four emails inside.

🥚 Trend #3: Reliable spots worth checking again.

Some approaches never fail. It’s always worth:

Strategic segmentation.

Clean lists, ethically built.

Value-driven emails.

Clear and compelling subject lines.

How to leverage it: Trust the old faithfuls. Build a quality list. Segment and serve and give the readers more of your brand inside your emails.
