I had a whole email scheduled and ready to launch today but last night, something magical happened in the marketing world and this morning, as I was sitting here sipping my tea, I thought, hmm. I'm going to talk about this magic instead of boring old segments and copywriting.

If you've been here a while, you'll know where I'm going with this. I happened to have been awake at 12:12 am last night and found myself pleasantly surprised with a reward for my horrible menopausal sleep habits.

Taylor Swift has a new album coming. (If you're new here, I'm a Swifty. Get over it. You'll find references to her marketing peppered throughout my content.)

But it's the marketing that I want to very briefly examine and how we can use it inside of emails for projects we'd like to market.

What is mind-blowing to me is that the marketing for this album started years ago. Like 2022. When she knew what her release schedule was roughly going to be. Kind of like authors and their release schedules, right?

And then it really got going in earnest in October of 2024 with her now famous picture of the childless cat lady photo in front of the A12 sign and hasn't stopped since. Dropping hints and Easter eggs all. The. Time. She's a master of colours, numbers and symbolism to build anticipation and speculation and relevancy in a chaotic marketing world.

So, why shift my planned emails because of this?

Like her or not, she's a marketing genius. We could all learn from her meticulous strategy, regardless of how frequently you release.

I have one client who releases from 2-5 books per year but we have a plan a year out for her drip marketing using email and socials and as hard as it is, we have a strict drip schedule. And it works incredibly well but it's so hard to hold onto those secrets! But so deliciously worth it.
